3DPrintedCarPartDescription
I stumbled upon a cheap ($3.00) Universal Car Magnetic Mount and decided to find a better use for the magnetic part. Back in 2008 I created my first design of a Ball Joint Mount for BMW i3: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3126018. After a couple of years of great use, a passenger broke the part by accident. I had to print a new part so I got back to the drawing board. This is how Version 2 was born. The new version is a single piece design with the ball joint integrated into the arm. Version 2 incorporates 4 oval openings allowing versatile cable management. The design is much cleaner and visually appealing. I printed the part on an Ender 3 v2 using (1.75mm) Inland PLA+ filament. I used the following print settings: 20% infill and supports for the ball joint & connector portion. The part was printed quite easy and required minimal cleanup (i.e. removing the supports and minor stringing in the openings). Turned out pretty good and fits my needs to hold & charge my phone! Any improvement recommendations are welcome! P.S. Magnetic mount products can be found at Marshalls, TJ Maxx or Ross at a heavily discounted price. There are a number of similar products that could be purchased on Amazon or at your preferred online store/marketplace. The ball diameter for all these products is typically 17mm.
