3DPrintedCarPartDescription
2003 - 2008 Volkswagen EOS glove box handles ( 1k2857077 z1k2857147b ) have a mechanical design flaw which puts too much force onto a small portion of the plastic handle, causing it to crack over time. This part is a brace that fits around the lock barrel, between the plastic handle and the housing. A screw can then be put through the lever and into this bracing, effectively mechanically coupling the whole plastic handle + lock barrel to the lever which transmits the force into the glove box unlatching mechanism. This makes the handle very solid, prevents any handle flex, and prevents the plastic splitting more. *Note*: This is for a RHD car so, if you have a left hand drive, mirror the brace. ####Tools used: - T15 or T20 (or both) torx screwdrivers to remove the glove box handle from glove box (see pictures for location of screw) - 1* 16mm countersunk wood screw, 8mm head, 3mm shaft,4mm thread - 3mm drill bit - 10mm dia Countersinking drill piece - Super glue ####Printing: Print with supports, 10 shells (for strength) as shown above ####Assembly / Procedure: - Remove glove box handle from glove box - Carefully disassemble the two pieces of the handle - Insert the "leverFiller" into the handle lever portion and use the hole guide to drill a 3mm hole through lever. - Countersink hole so the wood screw will sit roughly flush with the lever+filler face - (after test fitting the brace over the barrel) Apply super glue to the highlighted lip face and press the brace firmly onto the handle. - While the glue is still drying, screw the wood screw through the lever and into the bracing. - After the glue is fully dried/set/cured (I left it for around 6 hours), reassemble and reinstall into your glovebox.
