Description

This is my first attempt at designing a phone holder for the Ford maverick FITS system. This is a remix of 2 other things: the Ford Maverick FITS Slot Adapter by Redbaron97, and the Ball Joint Speaker Mount by Robertd33. It's not letting me add them as remixes, so I wanted to give credit first before the explanation. UPDATE 2: I think I've finalized the design. After a few broken ball joints, I realized I needed the screw to be larger to prevent breaking from too much torsion. I also altered the tolerances and printed using exclusive mode on Cura which helps with parts that need to fit in one another. The screw worked perfectly, and the mount held wonderfully..... until I went a little too fast over some rough forest road for long enough it snapped heh heh (but it will work fine for everyday road use.) For a more durable part, I'm going to print with petg, and the screw will be 100%. My next project will be designing a better cubby insert, as the ones I've tried have all been lacking in one way or another. UPDATE 1: The FITS adapter goes perfectly into the slot, and the ball joint works beautifully. However, my first design for the method of connecting the double ended ball joints did not work...at all. So I redesigned them into 2 version I am going to test: a screw method, and a locking insert method. Both have already been designed with a.2mm tolerance built in, so there should be no need to adjust in slicer. I'll update again after I print and test the new methods. I know the Phone holder itself works well for my Pixel 7 in a chunky case as I have printed a different version of that, but I have not yet printed and tested the other components. The screenshots from TinkerCad show the proposed assembly order. I decided to make it double ended, with a connector in the middle to allow the greatest amount of flexibility (but we'll see how that works in the real world.) I may end up making the long ball a bit longer in order to extend the altered nut shaft a bit more, the purpose of which is to keep the connectors from coming apart, but still allow complete disassembly. I will update with print settings and pictures once I have printed and tested the components, as well as any revisions.
