Description

EPB switch design on Gen3 Hyundai Tucson is questionable at best, so the latches that hold the actual switch are qute weak and tend to break. This (reverse engineered) design allows one to atempt a fix of the switch instead of buying a new one (together with a whole block of other buttonts). The idea is to cut out the failed piece (one with the latches) out of the button block an replace it with a 3d-printed one. The part to be raplaced is actually relatively easy to cut out even with a knife (which I did, but still would be faster with a dremel), as you only need to cut through some thin plastic, leaving the reinforcement ribs intact. Then just glue the new 3d printed piece in place using CA or epoxy. For printing use at least some ABS/PC or even better some GF/CF composite (which I did). Anything less rigid or heat resistant fails terribly during summer, as the latches are thin and the swith is spring loaded. The part should be printed horisontally for obvious reasons, which means supports are a must. I would also suggest printing “expanders” (tiny green cylindrical parts in photos) and glue them on top of small cylindrical features on the sides of the switch. This will provide additional suppurt to the switch and let the latches last longer (I wonder why these cyindrical fetures do literally nothing in the original design?) Finally, apply some plastic-friendly lube during the assembly process. P.S.: You can use included STEP files to adjust this fix if needed. P.P.S: Sorry for the terrible photos, i decided to publish the design after I put everything back in my car, so thats all I have.
