Description

Not finding a phone mount here for a 3rd generation Mini Cooper dash, I have converted a picture of a commercial unit into a printable version. This is still a work in progress with tweaks being made to the hole locations and the likes, so I may still tweak the files or add more to them as I work through the installation and testing process. The version in the picture is the latest files except I nudged the mounting holes slightly closer together (about 1mm x and y) as the fit was still not quite right, but it does fit with a bit of work. The latest files should be a better fit. I used this phone mount, but I ran into some tolerance issues that required some filing to get it to slide properly. I suggest to scale the insert piece down a bit to help with the fit tolerance issue. Being the mount is currently yellow (likely gonna go to a blue at some point) I used a heavy hairband (don't tell the wife) that is yellow and its not really noticeable unless you are looking for it. Holds well, but not too well. Phone is easy to insert but also slides out sideways nicely. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3880865 The stability is fairly good, not as good as steel would give, but I don't notice it moving overly much as I am driving. This is the main reason I added the arc on the front face, as the previous design had very bad front to back wobble. To assemble the main piece to the middle piece, I used a random machine bolt I had on hand, likely M6. I used a large washer to help spread the force out as well. The pivot is another random machine bolt, I would guess M4 for this one.
