Volkswagen Golf Mk1 Switch Blank - VW part 321 957 087

Description This is a switch blank for a Golf Mk1 dash. Specifically, I designed this for the pictured area of my 1991 Cabriolet, above and below the hazard and defrost switches to the right of the instrument cluster, but it should fit many other Golfs, probably in other places. It replaces VW part 321957087. Printing The orientation to print this in depends on your preferences and your printer. I originally designed these to be printed face-up, with supports, in the orientation of the right switch blank in the cover photo. That's how the STL should load into your slicer. This is a good orientation if you prefer your printer's appearance of top layers over that of bottom layers. It also allows the support material all to connect to the sides that will be hidden. However, I now prefer to print these face-down. This is better if you prefer the appearance of bottom layers on your printer, and is especially nice if you can print with support interface material because it requires less support than the other orientation. The left switch blank in the cover picture shows this orientation, with the support and interface material still intact. I've seen these hold up fine for a few years in PLA, but I prefer to print them in PETG. The pictured prints are in unpainted black PLA-CF. Interchange This part was designed to fit the pictured area on a 1991 VW Cabriolet. It will likely fit others. Some Golf derivatives apparently use a version of this blank without the raised portion, even though it has the same part number. If you need that one, it was shared as a remix to my original upload on Thingiverse. Installation They snap into the blank holes, just like the original part.
