Description

These are the pylons to support original design Thule cross bars on a 2020Toyota Rav4 with flush rails. I needed straight crossbars but the factory and most aftermarket crossbars are curved. I believe 2019 and 2021 are the same, but don't take my word for it. I used a pair of original design plastic covered metal Thule crossbars that I had used on several previous vehicles. The mounting points are tilted around three axes in front and two in the rear relative to square, flat and level, so these pylons will bolt into the mounting points, fill the openings in the rails and cradle the crossbars. I drilled through the crossbars at a slight angle to suit the mounting bolts and put tapered washers under the bolt heads to take up the angle. My ski box sits even with the bottom of the crossbars, so I designed the pylons high enough so that even if someone opens the moon roof, it will not interfere with the ski box. Other crossbars could be used, but you might have to modify the upper end of each pylon. I used M8 x 1.25 button head stainless steel bolts 90 mm long. They aren't common in that length, but there are several vendors on ebay. If you use different bars, double check the length as you don't want to bottom the bolts against the roof.
